"This was one of my first modeling jobs. I had turned down modeling requests for years based on the fact that I didn't want to be painted and presented as a doll for others to feel they needed to live up to. Finally I decided to give it a try. I had seen Demetrius' artwork and I was struck by his ability to allow people to be themselves while capturing their beauty; the beauty that everyone holds inside of them. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed myself. I enjoyed being able to be open and free, silly, and unaware of self-consciousness. I appreciated that I could look as natural as possible, with no makeup, no preparation. The shoot was done immediately after a long day working in a busy restaurant. I figured I would come as I was, and see how Demetrius dealt with that. To my surprise I think he preferred it that way. I like proving to the world that I can be beautiful without altering myself, with no paint, no cover, but free and natural exactly as the world made me. I believe it’s important to show people that they can be beautiful as they are, that they should be proud of themselves, and not only their faces, but their whole bodies. The body is nothing to be ashamed of. Our bodies are a part of us. No separation can be put between us and the world except the cloth we use to hide ourselves from it, and the taboos we use to make people afraid of their own skin."
